Pitchside is a phone-first Veo camera alternative being developed for amateur players, Sunday League groups, futsal and small-sided football. Instead of requiring a dedicated sports camera, it is designed to process suitable phone footage into match statistics, highlights and player clips. Pitchside remains in private beta and is not a full-field tactical replacement for Veo Cam 3.
1. What Is a Veo Camera Alternative?
A Veo camera alternative is any recording workflow that solves part of the same job: capturing a match, following the action, reviewing footage, creating highlights or analysing players. Alternatives range from dedicated panoramic cameras to motorised tracking mounts and phone-first software. They are not interchangeable because each preserves different footage and provides different outputs.
- • Full-field camera systems: preserve a panoramic view and generate a followed view from the master recording.
- • PTZ or action-following systems: physically rotate or crop towards play and may not retain the full pitch.
- • Phone-based camera systems: use one or more compatible phones with a rig, mount or tripod
- • Post-recording analysis tools: accept footage captured elsewhere and focus on clips, statistics or coaching output
Is Pitchside a Veo Camera Alternative?
Pitchside is an alternative for teams whose priority is lower-cost player output from suitable phone footage. It is not a universal Veo replacement. Veo Cam 3 is an established dedicated-camera system for full-pitch recording, tactical review and optional livestreaming; Pitchside is being built around small-sided statistics, highlights and individual moments.
Choose Pitchside when the team already owns suitable phones and primarily wants statistics, highlights and player clips from sunday league matches. Choose a dedicated full-field system when the coaches need off-ball movement, tactical shape, mature club administration or established livestreaming.
Pitchside versus Veo
Pitchside and Veo Cam 3 start from different capture models. Veo Cam 3 records a 180-degree view of the pitch with dedicated hardware and requires an active subscription for Editor access. Pitchside is designed to accept suitable phone footage and has planned free and paid software tiers, but its final compatibility and usage rules remain under beta testing.
| Need | Pitchside | Veo |
|---|---|---|
| Capture hardware | Suitable phones plus safe mounts | Dedicated Veo camera or official Veo phone workflow where available |
| Current focus | 5-, 6- and 7-a-side phone footage | Established full-field recording, tactical review and livestreaming workflows |
| Pricing | Free and Paid launch tiers; not purchasable yet | Check Veo's official pricing for current plans |
| Output | Stats, highlights, personal records and leaderboards being tested | Dedicated camera analysis and team-video workflows |
Who Is This Phone-First Alternative For?
Pitchside is being built for teams that already record, or can reliably record, small-sided football on a phone. The strongest fit is a recurring group that values goals, assists, saves, tackles, highlights and player histories more than a permanent full-pitch tactical archive. Suitable footage and consistent camera positioning remain essential.
| team or Player | Likely fit | reason |
|---|---|---|
| 5-a-side and futsal groups | Strong | Compact pitches are more practical for stable phone coverage and player-event output. |
| 6- and 7-a-side teams | Strong when the pitch is visible | A suitable elevated or side-on angle can contain most of the playing area. |
| Sunday league teams | Conditional | Useful for highlights and player records; less suitable when coaches need a preserved 11-a-side tactical view. |
| Goalkeepers and individual players | Strong | Personal saves, goals, assists and clips are central outputs being tested. |
| Semi-professional clubs | Limited or complementary | A dedicated camera and established analysis platform may still be required for tactical and administrative workflows. |
How the Pitchside Recording Workflow Works
The planned workflow has four stages: secure a suitable phone in a stable position, record the match with enough of the pitch visible, upload the footage after the game, and review the supported statistics and clips produced during processing. Output quality depends on framing, lighting, stability, occlusion, resolution, storage and connection quality.
